The Horse Experience

Horses don't make a distinction between how they feel and how they act. They do not respond to who we are, they respond to what we are.

In this aspect, horses teach us about ourselves. Measured by their responses to our requests, they help us to understand who we are by providing instant and ongoing feedback.

Horses are beautiful, sensitive and deeply intuitive animals. Like most prey animals, they had to develop heightened sensitivity in order to survive from the constant threat of predators.

In the horse/human relationship, horses respond to our confidence, clarity of intention, focus and authenticity, and it is this aspect that can help us to become more aware of how we are living our lives. By mirroring what they feel from our deep inner selves, horses allow us to discover or reclaim our sense of personal power.

Horses need clear boundaries, because they find it impossible to cope with a lack of clarity. Horses respond to clear intention and, when you work with them you suddenly become aware of how clear - or unclear - you are in your own life. Discovering how to become clearer about what you want is empowering at a core level.

On this workshop everyone potentially takes away: -

  • A measured improvement in confidence
  • A discovery - or reclamation - of unknown personal skills
  • An understanding of ones own strengths and weaknesses and the tools to improve both
  • Realisation of the effectiveness' of clear intention by establishing clear goals at the onset of any task
  • Enhanced coping strategies
  • A sense of peace and acceptance
  • A reduction in stress

Horses are tactile social animals. They form strong bonds with their own friends, and they can and do equally form these bonds with us. They respond to our touch, and will offer affection and loyalty if we treat them with respect and only ask that they respect us in return. The wonderful thing about this work is that a single horse can give each individual person such a uniquely different experience, ensuring that your experience will always be personal to you.

Cancer can take away the sense of control in our lives. It is usually a point when we realise that we don't actually have that much control over anything, which is a scary thought when faced full on. But when a 1000lb horse moves willingly wherever you want, of follows you without any ropes or harnesses, you will gain a sense that you can claw back some of that control, just by the sensation of connection with another species. The horse still has behaviour that is rooted deep in history, and that somehow unfolds a sense of archaic oneness that we have mostly lost in today's modern world. The horse has not moved on with the times. It's behaviour is still the same. It doesn't have an ipod or a 50" wide screen TV or top of the range car. The horse, in its purity of spirit, is still ONLY concerned with living - and that is what touches our hearts.
